I stopped home for lunch and on the way back I saw what I thought was a Honda Civic to which someone gave the “Acura” treatment (technically I was right). Even when I saw the CSX badge I thought, “that’s not real, did this guy seriously make up his own model?”
As I continued to drive I thought, “no I’m dumb. That was definitely a real thing that Acura dealers sold new, right?” I just don’t know how I missed it. I’m not a fan of Acura’s but I am aware of them. TL, TSX, ILX, MDX, RL, and of course RSX. Had you told me an hour ago that you owned a CSX I’d be like “hah, fuckin’ guy doesn’t even know what kind of car he drives.”
Maybe my car knowledge is slipping? Maybe it’s just that there are so many cars that I have a passion for that my brain is canceling out the ones I don’t.

Wow, I had no idea. Looks like Canadian market only discontinued in 2011

Like the Black Panther said, it’s a Canadian market car. I remember seeing a few of these bombing around up there and wondering what was up with the odd-looking Civic.

A friend’s wife has one.
The design was also used for the JDM Civic.

I learned this when I saw this one last summer! And despite being a Canadian market only car, it turns out they’re fully importable into the US since they have the same engine as the Si Civic, in the Type-S at least, and they’re a Civic body.

Oh snap. I didn’t think to look at the license plate. Could have been Ontario or maybe someone imported it.

yep - Canadian. We occasionally get some of the previous gen models out here too. Never could really figure out why Canada got these as well when US only got the Integra, RSX, etc.

There was also the EL in the two gene before 05. The name changed to match the RSX, and TSX three letter nomenclature
They at least had different headlights and tailights

I’ve always wondered why i didn’t see more front end swaps from these and the Acura EL before it.

Meanwhile, this CSX is clearly a rebadged Chessie:

Guy must have imported or been visiting, as this was in PA.

Is there a chance it could be a rebadged Civic?

That’s what I thought originally but as I got closer it was def the real deal. I could check the dash cam.

They're nothing special. We get better vehicles than that. Mercedes E Class Wagon and Nissan Micra (soooooo cheap)

Yea it didn’t look like anything more than a civic with leather seats. I was just thrown by the CSX badge

I saw this nice Brio- style one when I was looking for pics:
They used to make a Chessie System version as well, but looks like it has been discontinued:
Too bad, a friend of mine has a kid who is about to be old enough for Brio, and I would get her one if they were still for sale.
![]() 07/18/2018 at 17:14 |

Wow those are the two of the nicest Brio trains I have ever seen. I never knew they made “real” models. I only have a few Lionel trains/cars and a very small track. But I’ve got a ton of really nice HO gauge stuff from my childhood along with some more modern track. I’m excited for when my kid (and maybe by that time kid(s)) are old enough for stuff like that.
![]() 07/18/2018 at 17:19 |

They aren’t official Brio products, they are compatible trains made by a company called Whittle Shortline .

Canadian entry level Acuras... the EL and CSX. They’re basically fancy Civics and hurt the brand image in my eyes since there isn’t enough differentiation with the Civic.

The Acura CSX and pre-CSX Acura EL were Canada only Civic-based models friend! :)

Another oppo said that they are importable, but it sounds like you’ve done your homework. I’ll check my dash cam later today to see what license plate it had, def could have been a Canadian plate.

The problem is like I said I have been researching for years and still haven’t found a definitive answer as to whether or not it can be done legally. I would like to think that is should fall under the “substantially similar” importing clause. But I just can’t find any cases where it has actually been done successfully. Although a couple years ago I did see one driving around with Virginia plates on it so maybe it’s possible... or maybe that car was compressed into a tiny cube later that day... I just don’t know.

Seems like you need a letter of compliance from the manufacturer. I’d be more comfortable buying one that was already located and registered in the US.

Hey man, I know all about the CSX and importing because 2 years ago I did it myself. I even wrote a lengthy detailed post on civicx forums and 1 other website but if it’s TL:DR I’ll explain it here in a nutshell.
For me it took about 4 months to get all the paperwork necessary and the hardest document you will need to obtain is something called a ‘compliance letter’. Under Federal Law in the United States vehicle manufacturer companies are legally bound to provide this to the consumer upon request but they NEVER do.
It simply states on a proper letterhead the vehicle with VIN# complies with US Federal Motor Safety Standards along with E.P.A. emissions control. Since the Acura CSX were manufactured in Canada and is essentially the civic here in the States, you pay no duty tax as well when you complete the import form at your Port of Entry.
The DMV requires the compliance letter, the importation documents, any required emissions documents if applicable, and the bill of sale since there’s no title in Canada. Y ou can always call your local DMV and ask for the foreign correspondence department, at least in California.
All of this is for importing from Canada to USA. From USA to Canada is different from what I hear. Here is a link for more information, good luck!
I’ve had my 2010 Acura CSX for 2 years now and love it. I’ve babied it ever since I brought it here and I researched craigslist for months to purchase one. This one has 38k miles on it and it’s in Taffeta White. F or those who wanted to know more, the Acura CSX were in production from 2006-2011. It underwent 2 generations 2006-2008 and 2009-2011. T he 2nd gen had a minor refresh such as the plenum grill beak, the black housing front headlights, and the inside rear taillights gem cluster were shaped into octagons as opposed to the circular lights on the 2006-2008 and Type Rs in Japan .
I chose this vehicle because it’s the closest I’ll ever get to an FD2 Civic type-R without undergoing any modifications. Also, it’s the only manual transmission I could find that includes leather seats + navigation + side mirror blinker lights + moonroof + luxury combo I could find at the time. To this day I still get people who take pictures and slow down to check it out. D riving it is an absolute privilege!
P.S. Whatever you do, avoid R.I’s or Registered Importers. You will pay a fortune and it takes months to get it all sorted out through them.
